DUBAI, United Arab Emirates —During a performance at the Dubai Air Show on Friday, a combat aircraft crashed.
Around 2:10 p.m. local time, the Indian HAL Tejas, a combat aircraft used by the Indian Air Force, crashed while conducting a demonstration flight for an audience.
It was not immediately apparent whether the pilot had ejected or whether anyone had been hurt.
Following the incident, alarms rang and a swarm of onlookers watched as black smoke rose over the Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central.
Both the long-haul airline Emirates and its lower-cost sibling airline FlyDubai placed significant aircraft orders at the biennial Dubai Air Show, which was held at the city-state's second airport.
